I was so totally shocked and upset last evening when I heard Big Boy asking listeners to call in and wage their guess as to when Britney Spears will commit suicide or die as a result of some other tragic cause. He suggested that whoever guessed the date would win $1,000. This was obviolusly based on the recent events of the superstar and an extremely poor publicity stunt or ratings generator. I can't believe that a public radio station such as channel 955 would stoop to such a level.
Suicide is a tragic event for all involved. As a firefighter/medic, I have witnessed such occurances and I can tell you it is more graphic that you can ever realize. It would seem that channel 955 and Big Boy are publicly promoting suicide, at least as far as Britney Spears is concerned and who would be next? With all the young listeners that this stations has, including my teenage daughter, one can only imagine the ideas that they may come up with. The next headline for one of your contest may be directed at one of our local kids.
Now channel 955 management comes out with an watered down apology and wants America and its listeners to believe they are sincere and sorry. Their apolgy doesn't even say that the contest was actually ended and claims that, "the cash prize was always going to be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention". So who's lying to who here? I thought the money was going to the winning contestant! Then they try to justify their blunder by saying that, "people across the country are talking about Britney and the media, itself, needs to take responsibility for the part they have played in her sad situation". Would (will) channel 955 admit responsibility should Britney intentionally harm or attempt to inflict great bodily harm upon herself? I think not! Your apology and mixed words mean nothing now.
As for Big Boy, what action will the radio station take against him? I would lose my job if I caused such humilation and cast a negative image on my employer. In the end should no disciplinary action be taken against Big Boy then we'll know where the whole idea originated from won't we?

Totally agree with you on the whole suicide thing. I am a Nurse and it's a very unfortunate thing. Not something to make light of at all!
